FIRST DAY AT THE JOB!!!

Here it is my aecond post and my first day at work behind me.

it was a strange day but never the less a day afterall.

What did i do?
Not much to be honest but enough to get me thinking and enough to have let me learn something new.

Today i had to do a very simple thing to start the day with.
I had to fill a small gap between the marble or was it granite floor and the soapstone wall with a gray silicone.
see pictures 1 and 2.
The person who was teaching me how to do left a bit of a mess on the soapstone. Apparantly some silicones have oils in the them that leave a residue on the soapstone and make it look ugly.
And i was also told that there is special silicones for special purposes like filling seams between soapstone tiles. the one i was using was grey in color and i am kind of hoping i did have the right one.
After he showed me how to mess up half the wall i took over and just wet my finger and smoothed the silicone like that. it worked well but i am sure there is other ways to do it.
I did manage to not make a mess and to actually keep the edges clean.
I also thought that he had cut the tip of the nozzle wrong . I replaced it with another one and cut the tip diagonally. this allowed me to do a better job at applying the silicone in the corner and gap, and actually get a nice result out of it. I still believe that the man who was showing it to me did not know how to do it and that a much better job could have been done.
why?
1st. of no effort was made to fill the gap behind and between the soapstone, it just got closed.
2nd of all having filled up the gap first with some kind of cement or paste would have made applying the silicone easier, and half of it would not have been wasted inside the gap.

After this was done 4 hours and about 30 meters later i finally moved on to smaller things but not totally unimportant either.

Measuring the house!!!

Next week are going to remove all the wooden boards (woodpanelling) or outside walls, put new isolation and put wooden outside walls. why the measuring.
Simple! we need to now how much wood we will need to order.
we just calculated all the surfaces including windows and doors.
Then we measured all door and windows and took it of the amount of square meter to get the number we need.

After that i just started painting a window frame wich is ok but not very appealing. I am no good at painting. When that was done it was time to home, pick up the kids from kindergarden and juggle this blog and the kids at the same time.

This was it for today but i am sure tomorrow will be more fun.
